1. China's Refractories Exports Reach Record Highs

According to data released by the Association of China Refractories Industry (ACRI) on March 9, 2024, China's total refractory exports increased 12% year-on-year to reach a record high. Key export destinations include India, Southeast Asia and Europe. Analysts point out that this growth is due to the breakthrough of Chinese refractory enterprises in the field of high-end products, as well as the strong demand for infrastructure construction in countries along the “Belt and Road”.

2. U.S. launches new standard for refractory industry

On March 10, the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) announced the launch of a new test standard for refractory materials designed to improve the stability and safety of product performance in high-temperature environments. The new standard specifically addresses the needs of the steel, cement and glass manufacturing industries and is expected to have a profound impact on the global refractory market.

3. Indian refractories market demand surge

With the rapid development of India's steel and building materials industry, the refractories market demand in the first quarter of 2025 significant growth. March 11, the Indian Refractory Manufacturers Association (IRMA), said the next five years, India's refractory market growth rate is expected to remain at more than 8% per annum. In order to meet the demand, a number of international refractory companies have announced the establishment of production bases in India or the expansion of existing production capacity.

4. Japan develops new environmentally friendly refractory material

March 10, Japan's Tokyo Institute of Technology announced the successful development of a new environmentally friendly refractory materials, the material using nanotechnology, with higher heat resistance and lower carbon emissions. This breakthrough is expected to be widely used in the steel, chemical and energy industries, and promote technological innovation in the refractory industry.

5. International Refractory Exhibition (IRE) opens in Germany

On March 11, the International Refractories Exhibition (IRE) 2025 opened in Düsseldorf, Germany. The exhibition attracted more than 300 exhibitors from more than 40 countries around the world, displaying the latest refractory products and technologies. During the exhibition, a number of enterprises signed strategic cooperation agreements, further promoting the cooperation and development of the global refractories industry.
