The Tundish slag weir is an auxiliary product in the Tundish. It is used to separate slag, prevent slag going into moulds and improve steel quality. There are two main materials for slag weirs: aluminum-magnesium and magnesium.
Function:
Ø Calm the liquid: Make the molten steel in the tundish flow more smoothly.
Ø Floating inclusions: The slag weir creates a calm area, making it easier for impurities in the molten steel to float to the surface and be removed.
Ø Block slag: Prevent slag and circulation from entering the walled area, making the molten steel reaching the long nozzle area of the tundish purer.
Ø Reduce inclusion content: Reduce the inclusion content of the slab.
Ø Reduce nozzle blockage: Clean molten steel reduces the risk of nozzle blockage.
