Silicon nitride is a dense, high-strength and high-toughness ceramic material. Silicon nitride is used in many industrial applications, such as engine components, bearings and cutting tools. Silicon nitride has better high-temperature performance than most metals, while combining high strength stability and creep resistance and oxidation resistance. Compared with most ceramic materials, its lower thermal expansion coefficient gives it good thermal shock resistance.
There are three common types of silicon nitride: reaction bonded silicon nitride (RBSN), hot pressed silicon nitride (HPSN), and sintered silicon nitride (SSN).
Properties:
1. Physical properties: Silicon nitride usually crystallizes in gray or dark brown, has high hardness and high density. It has high resistance to thermal and mechanical stress, and has good wear resistance and corrosion resistance.
2. Thermal properties: Silicon nitride has high thermal conductivity and thermal stability, can withstand high temperature environments, and is widely used in the manufacture of high temperature materials and devices.
3. Electrical properties: Silicon nitride is a good insulator with high breakdown voltage and dielectric constant, and can be used as an insulating layer or insulating substrate in electronic devices.
Applications:
1. Semiconductor materials: Silicon nitride is widely used in the manufacture of high-performance semiconductor devices, such as high-power and high-frequency electronic devices.
2. Ceramic materials: Silicon nitride has excellent wear resistance and corrosion resistance and can be used to manufacture ceramic parts and coating materials. It can also be used for components of high-temperature furnaces and industrial furnaces.
3.Biomedical applications: Silicon nitride has good biocompatibility and biodegradability and can be used in the manufacture of medical devices and biomedical material.
