Tundish

Tundish

Tundish is a transition device between ladle and  crystallizer to accept molten steel in continuous casting process.

It is not only the storage and distributor of molten steel, but also the refining container of molten steel, which is used to stabilize the steel flow and reduce the erosion of the billet shell in the crystallizer by the steel flow. It is an important link to improve the quality of steel and the efficiency of continuous casting to ensure the molten steel have a reasonable flow field and a proper long residence time in the tundish, to ensure the uniform temperature of molten steel and the separation of non-metallic impurties, and to ensure the cleanliness of molten steel and multi-furnace continuous casting.

Refractories for intermediate packaging can be divided into three types from function: the first type is the lining material, which is mainly composed of thermal insulation layer, permanent layer and working layer; The second type is the stable flow component; The third type is the flow control part. It is generally believed that tundish has the following functions: reducing the static pressure of molten steel, purifying molten steel, diverting molten steel, and storing molten steel.
